Uniform launch - 2026 Australian Paralympic Team

Dear Biathlon Family Australia,

Last Thursday, our National Para Team member’s Matt Brumby, Dave Miln, and Taryn Dickens with guide Lynn-Maree Cullen were part of the crew that launched the uniforms for the 2026 Australian Paralympic Team (APT). See: Australia’s Milano Cortina Uniform Launched By The Governor-General

Biathlon Australia’s Chair, David Windsor (DW), was on hand to witness the ceremony at Admiralty House and spoke first hand with Para Biathlon World Cup and World Championship athlete Matt Brumby (MB).

DW:

I'm here with Matt Brumby, representing Biathlon Australia at the Paralympics Australia winter games uniform launch at the spectacular Admiralty House overlooking Sydney Harbour.

So how do you feel about the uniforms mate?

MB:

It's amazing and it's such a beautiful day. We're well represented by the team, and especially by the GG,
Her Excellency, and the team from PA doing their stuff. This is going to be the first and last time that we're altogether as a team before we go to Milano. We've had great support from BA and all the organisations. It's just such a beautiful day, so it's always amazing wearing the green and gold buddy.

DW:

And you like the styling of the uniforms?

MB:

Love the styling of the uniforms. I think they've done really well, and putting the Aboriginal culture in our Australian kit is a good thing - it looks good. We've got some great coats for our dogs as well. I think we're all just looking forward for the season to start.

DW:

And it's definitely going to be warm enough for you when you're over in Milano Cortina?

MB:

I reckon they've got some good gear here. I was lucky enough to wear the summer stuff today on this beautiful day we've got here. But I'm looking forward to getting into the real kit.

DW:

How are your preparations going?

MB:

Yeah, amazing. it's been really good working with BA and SASI, so the South Australian Sports Institute, so yeah, I get to go there 3 days a week and then I do 2 other days there, with the laser rifle and shooting and ski erging. t's probably been the best six or seven weeks in the last 3 years I've had solid training. I've got a really good program, everything's coming together.

DW:

And you're looking forward to Canmore?

MB:

Canmore's going to be great. First start of the season with the whole team going to be there, as well as Lauren our newbie coming along. I think it's a really good chance for the Australian team to get some really good points on the board and trying to get in the next couple of slots.

DW:

Yeah, perfect, right? Thanks, mate. Appreciate you.

Australia has only ever had one athlete compete in para biathlon at a Paralympic Winter Games; namely, James Millar, PLY back in Torino 2006. This highlights just how hard it is to get there on your own. One of the biggest hurdles to clear to get to any pinnacle Games is financial support. Any support you can offer our Paralympic Winter Games contenders would no doubt be appreciated by them all. Tax deductible donations can be made through the athletes’ ASF accounts:

·         Matthew Brumby: matthew brumby | Australian Sports Foundation

·         Taryn Dickens: ROAD TO MILANO CORTINA 2026 WINTER PARALYMPICS | Australian Sports Foundation

·         Dave Miln: Paralympic Winter Games 2026 | Australian Sports Foundation

Ski fast, shoot straight, and help keep their dreams alive.
