Integrity & Governance Funding Success

As part of Australia’s broader push to keep sport clean, fair, safe, and inclusive, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes that often goes unnoticed—but plays a critical role in how sport operates day to day.

At the heart of it all is good governance. The Australian Government continues to work closely with sporting bodies to make sure organisations—particularly National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) like Biathlon Australia—are backed by clear, consistent, and practical policies. These policies are more than just paperwork; they shape how sports handle everything from conduct and complaints to fairness and inclusion.

Supporting this system is a strong national framework, including Sport Integrity Australia (SIA), the National Sports Tribunal (NST), and the National Integrity Framework (NIF).  Not to mention the outstanding support provided by the Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU).  Together, they provide structure and guidance—but as many sports have found, turning frameworks into real-world, workable policies can be challenging.

That’s where targeted support programs come in.

Following the success of its earlier Policy Adoption Programs, the NST has launched the Policy Enhancement Program (PEP), designed to help sports take the next step—refining, strengthening, and embedding their integrity policies so they truly work in practice. We’re pleased to share that Biathlon Australia has been successful in securing funding through this program.

For Biathlon Australia, this is a valuable opportunity to take a fresh look at our policy landscape in line with the release of updated NIF policies from Sport Integrity Australia in July 2026. The focus will be on reviewing and tailoring the updated NIF policies to suit the sport, while also consolidating non-NIF policies to ensure everything is aligned, easy to understand, and fit for purpose.

There’s also a strong emphasis on improving how issues are managed in practice—strengthening dispute resolution pathways, refining appeals processes, and updating key policies such as conduct, disciplinary procedures, and social media guidelines.

The goal is simple: policies that are not only compliant, but clear, practical, and genuinely usable for everyone involved in Biathlon.

Huge thanks to BA’s National Integrity Manager, Brooke Irvine and BA’s Legal Counsel, Ian Fullagher for their assistance in securing this grant.

We’ll keep you updated as this work progresses over the coming months.
