IBU Regional Event Oceania Cup, Hotham, Australia 7th – 9thAugust 2026
Biathlon Australia has successfully applied to have the Australian Championships on 8–9 August recognised as an IBU Regional Event Oceania region.
The IBU Regional Events are youth and junior biathlon competitions supported by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) through financial and logistical assistance.
The purpose of regional events is to help National Federations organize high-quality international events, strengthen regional cooperation, and promote grassroots development of the sport.
IBU Regional Events are becoming increasingly important, as they form part of the future qualification pathway for junior athletes.
Australia is part of the Oceania region, and prior to this year no IBU Regional Events had been held in Oceania, so it is a big step for Biathlon Australia.
Athlete Registration
Basic athlete registration in IBU Membercenter for youth categories (U17/U19) and older is mandatory.
Athlete registration must be done in IBU Membercenter latest 2 weeks before the event by the IBU National Federation. If the athlete is not registered, they cannot start in the competition.
Master’s athletes are not currently required to be registered.
Athletes who have previously attended IBU camps or IBU races will already meet this requirement.
However, if you are not yet registered and would like to compete, you must contact Sandra Paul spaul@biathlonaaustralia.com.au by 10 July 2026.
There is no cost to be registered on IBU Membercentre.
The following documents are required for Basic registration
- Passport or other identity document (for athletes under 18 years old)
- Documents must verify the athletes:
- name
- date of birth
- nationality
- sex
- Athletes must be a citizen of the registering National Federation’s country
- Copies of documents must be clear, good quality, and easy to read
The “Basic” registration can later be upgraded to a “Full” registration by NF uploading:
- the IBU Declaration
- an anti-doping certificate
Once all required documents are uploaded, the athlete will undergo the IBU anti-doping background check. Following successful verification, the athlete’s profile will be upgraded to “Full” status.
It's still early days and further details of the event will evolve over the coming months.
We welcome everyone's support for this momentous opportunity. And we especially thank BA's superstar Sports Director, Sandra Paul OLY, for securing this honour.
