Darcie Morton Selected for Winter Olympic Debut
Biathlon Australia is proud to announce that Darcie Morton has been selected to the Australian Winter Olympic Team and is officially bound for the Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games. Her selection follows Australia securing the final available women’s biathlon quota place, as confirmed by the Australian Olympic Committee.
Darcie will make her Olympic debut in Italy, mirroring a remarkable family legacy. Her father, Cameron Morton, represented Australia at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, making them the first father–daughter duo to compete for Australia at a Winter Olympics. Together, Cameron and Darcie are among only seven Australians to have represented the nation in Olympic biathlon competition.
Australia’s return to Olympic biathlon after missing the past two Winter Games is a significant milestone and reflects the collective efforts of many contributors. Biathlon Australia acknowledges the support of the International Biathlon Union, the Australian Olympic Committee (through High Performance funding), and the dedicated coaching and support staff who have worked tirelessly throughout this Olympic cycle. Special recognition goes to Joe Oberlacher, based at Australia’s European training base in Obertilliach, for his coaching of Darcie over recent seasons and his role in helping Australia secure an Olympic quota.
Biathlon Australia also recognises the exceptional performances of all athletes who achieved the minimum Olympic performance standards this season. Notably, Rosie Franzke recorded the lowest female Q-point result of the 2025–26 IBU season with a score of 115.72. Congratulations are also extended to World Cup athletes Noah Bradford and Phoenix Sparke on securing World Cup wildcard entries for Australia for Trimester 3.
Following the conclusion of the Olympic qualification period (2025–26 season, post–Trimester 2), the IBU Q-point standings for Australian high-performance and Olympic long-list athletes are as follows:
-
Noah Bradford – 111.26 (World Cup)
-
Phoenix Sparke – 120.16 (World Cup)
-
Darcie Morton – 126.36 (Olympic selection)
-
Boris Stanish – 137.79 (World Cup first reserve)
Biathlon Australia wishes Darcie Morton every success as she prepares for her Olympic debut, and extends best wishes to all Australian athletes competing through Trimester 3 and the remainder of the 2025–26 IBU season.
Fans can watch biathlon live and free on Eurovision Sport, including the four man men’s relay at the Open European Championships tonight featuring our three Mens World Cup athletes and anchored by Sebastian Packer-Smith.
