Damon Morton IBU Academy Level 2 coach certified

Published Tue 10 Jun 2025

Dear Biathlon Family Australia,

Damon Morton has successfully completed the IBU Academy Second Level coaching course which culminated with a certification ceremony yesterday in Ruhpolding. Damon joins Lucy Glanville, OLY as our two highest IBU qualified coaches. Damon represented Australia in biathlon at the 2017 World Championships and 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games. Damon’s best biathlon results were 11th in the 2014 Youth and Junior World Championships in Presque Isle, Maine, United States, and 7th in the 2016 IBU Junior Cup 3 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

The IBU Second Level coaching course that Damon graduated from involved 131 approved biathlon specific training hours and 15 hours of mentorship within the IBU Coaching Framework. The course spanned three intensive weeks, held in international biathlon venues: Oberhof (GER), Lillehammer (NOR), and Ruhpolding (GER). Damon should be rightly proud of his recent IBU coaching accomplishment.

In just three years Australia has managed to get seven coaches on and through the IBU Academy high-quality coaching pathway:

·    Lucy Glanville, OLY (IBU Level 2 certified 3 Jul 24)

·    Damon Morton (IBU Level 2 certified 6 Jun 25)

·    Cameron Morton, OLY (selected for IBU Level 2 course)

·    Toscha Stopar (IBU Level 1 certified 6 Apr 25)

·    Julia Smusz (selected for IBU Level 1 course)

·    Dyllan Harmer (IBU Basic coach course completed)

·    Heather Wiederkehr (IBU Basic coach course completed)

Congratulations Damon, we look forward to your positive contributions in growing the sport and raising the coaching and athlete standards for the benefit of a better biathlon experience for all.

Biathlon Australia, celebrating a near 50-year legacy, while forging future pathways for all.
