IBU Congress elects new leadership for the next four years

The 17th IBU Congress was held in Berchtesgaden, Germany, from 17–20 September, with National Federations coming together to elect the leadership that will guide the International Biathlon Union through to the 2030 Alpes Winter Olympic Games.

Tim Farcnik of Slovenia was unanimously elected as the new IBU President, succeeding Olle Dahlin. Sofia Domeij of Sweden was elected Vice President, while Christian Scherer of Austria was re-elected as Treasurer.

The new IBU Executive Board includes Tore Bøygard (Norway), Atanas Ivanov Furnadshiev (Bulgaria), Tarmo Karsna (Estonia), Nathalie Santer (Italy), Stefan Schwarzbach (Germany) and Tamara Wolf (Switzerland), alongside Athletes' Committee representative Simon Eder and Secretary General Max Cobb as an ex-officio member.

Biathlon Australia's Chairman David Windsor was again invited by the Biathlon Integrity Unit to present at Congress on sports governance, following his involvement in the IBU's Governance Consultation.

David said:

“It was an honour to again share my thoughts and BA's incredible governance journey with our dear friends at the 2026 IBU Congress. The ongoing success of the IBU, BA, and other member federations continues to be underpinned by a commitment to governance and integrity. 'Implementing Good Governance' is one of the IBU's Target 2030 strategic goals and it remains a critical cornerstone of our ongoing commitment to create 'A Better Biathlon For All'.”

The new IBU leadership will serve a four-year term, with the next Ordinary IBU Congress scheduled for 2028 in Windsor, Great Britain.

💗Obertilliach Junior Camp Full

The upcoming Biathlon Australia junior camp in Obertilliach, Austria, is now full. 💗

It is fantastic to see such strong interest from our junior athletes as they continue their development on snow in Europe.

Dylan Harmer will be coaching the camp, supporting our young athletes through their training and helping them make the most of their time in Obertilliach.

We wish all the athletes and Dylan a great camp!

Strong Numbers for Jindabyne Camp

There has been a strong response to the upcoming Jindabyne camp, with 18 athletes set to take part under the guidance of coach Toscha.

The camp will bring athletes together for a few days of training at the new Jindabyne facilities, including roller skiing, running and shooting, as they prepare for the season ahead.

It is also a fitting way to lead into a very special weekend for Biathlon Australia, with the camp taking place alongside the 50th anniversary celebrations of biathlon in Australia.

With 18 athletes coming together in Jindabyne, it will be a great opportunity to celebrate both the history of the sport and the next generation of Australian biathletes.
