Dear Biathlon Family Australia,
Paralympics Australia has now received confirmation of quota allocations in Para-cross country and Para-biathlon for Milano Cortina 2026. See: https://www.paralympic.org.au/2025/06/australia-to-feature-in-record-number-of-sports-at-winter-games/
This means that Australia may have at least one athlete join James Millar, PLY on the Biathlon Australia Paralympian Honour Board. James, as Australian Paralympian #789, represented Australia in para biathlon at Torino in 2006.
National Para Team athletes vying for the Australian qualification slot allocation are Matthew Brumby who has made his Para Biathlon World Championship debut and Taryn Dickens who debuted at the Para Biathlon World Cup this year. Taryn has now joined both James Millar and Matthew Brumby on the Biathlon Australia Para Biathlon World Cup Honour Board. Matty Brumby joined James on the World Cup Honour Board nearly 20 years after James’s World Cup debut in 2005. David Miln will also be one to watch in the lead up to 2026 Milano Cortina as he too attempts to gain qualification and selection to race at the 2026 pinnacle event. None of our National Para Biathlon Team members are guaranteed a slot on the 2026 Australian Paralympic Team; however, the chances of at least one making the grade have increased considerably (noting they may not be the only ones contesting Australia’s Para Nordic qualification slot allocations).
We wish our National Para Team all the best of success as they work towards their goals of qualification and selection for the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in the season ahead. We know they are fully committed to this endeavour with camps in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Europe ahead.
